As part of efforts to support education and ease the burden on parents, the Chairman of Isoko South Local Government, Honourable Comrade Warri Ovoke Friday, has flagged off the distribution of 17,000 exercise books to learners in 48 public schools across the local government area.
The official launch took place at Okpolo Enhwe Primary School, where the council boss reiterated his commitment to the “Warri For Your Worries” campaign promise and aligned his initiative with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
“Education plays a critical role in the fortunes of every nation. For us who completed our education in public schools here in Nigeria, this is a way of encouraging our young learners to take their studies seriously. We are no longer campaigning—we are here to address your educational concerns and deliver M.O.R.E.,” Warri stated.
He emphasized that while the notebooks may seem like a small gesture, they would help alleviate the financial pressure on parents and guardians. He issued a strong warning to head teachers:
“Let the learners have access to these books; do not sell or keep them in your homes.”
In a nostalgic moment, the chairman—an alumnus of Okpolo Enhwe Primary School—pledged to rehabilitate the Headmaster’s quarters, noting that the current headmaster commutes from Ughelli daily, a situation the council intends to correct.
The Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Pius Emamowho, praised the initiative as a positive step in the right direction for educational development in the area. He noted that the provision of exercise books and infrastructure support would significantly improve both teaching and learning environments.
The event’s highlight was the official handover of the 17,000 exercise books by Mr. Conference Afedhae, Head of Primary School Heads in Isoko South, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the chairman for his continued investment in education.
